Pro-Life, Anti-Abortion and No Apologies!!!

Psalm 139:13-19 says, “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee. Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.”

The number one cause of death in America today is abortion, taking 1.6 million lives per year–4383 per day. While we sit in the assembly this morning for an hour 183 babies will be murdered! That is 3 per minute. Abortion kills more Americans than heart disease, cancer, aids, guns and auto accidents combined. Then we ask, “How many have been killed in Iraq???” There are those who wanted to stop the war and yet they stand behind those who would murder innocent children!

One woman who was a “Human Shield” in Iraq was asked if she believed in abortion, she said yes and then added, “What has that got to do with anything!”

Brothers and sisters over 50,000,000 Americans have died as a result of legalized abortion since 1973–that’s more than 30 times the number of Americans killed in all of our wars put together. If you were born after 1973, one out of four of your peers died from abortion. Currently 27-29% of all American pregnancies end in abortion.

What Does God Think about It???

Proverbs 6:16-17: God is not pro-choice– He hates the hands that shed innocent blood.

Genesis 1:26-27; 31: We are created in the image of God.

A. We reflect our Creator, and we are valuable in his eyes.

B. Life is sacred – including life in the womb.

Psalm 139:13-16: God has formed the child in the womb and ordained all the days for him before birth.

Jeremiah 1:5: God has a plan for the life of an unborn child–a plan for what God will do in the life of the child for the good of the people.

Genesis 25:22-23: Jacob & Esau wrestled in the womb–an unborn child has an identity and a personality in the eyes of God. Abortion cuts off a family line interfering with God’s plan for a nation.

Suppose Moses’ mother had an abortion. It was tough they were killing little boys back then. If she could risk her life to save three million people what can’t you do?

Your conception is for your destiny to be fulfilled. So, when you kill a baby you are killing destiny. Just think if Mary would have had an abortion.

A professor in a medical school once posed this medical situation — and ethical problem — to his students: “Here’s the family history: The father has syphilis. The mother has TB. They already have had four children. The first is blind. The second had died. The third is deaf. The fourth has TB. Now the mother is pregnant again and the parents come to you for advice. They are willing to have an abortion, if you decide they should. What do you say?” The students gave various individual opinions, and then the professor asked them to break into small groups for “consultation.” All of the groups came back to report that they would recommend abortion. “Congratulations,” the professor said, “You just took the life of Beethoven!”

Luke 1:39: God works in the life of an unborn child–His Spirit was at work in John the Baptist’s life before he was even born.
In God’s eyes life is the right of every child, not a special privilege for the fortunate, the “wanted,” the planned, and the perfect.

I. What Can We Do About It?

If you are a Christian your responsibility on issues is to lead the way. Any society without God will produce corruption, decay, and darkness, but Matthew 5:13-16 tells us that you are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Ephesians 5:11-13: We are to be the light for what is exposed to light is no longer darkness–For it is shameful even to speak of the things the disobedient do in secret—have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

II. We must expose abortion for what it really is.

What is an abortion? What does it do to mother & child?
RU486 is a drug that is taken between the 2nd and 9th week of pregnancy, usually after the fifth week. At five weeks, the preborn child is under an inch long, but already has eyes, ears, a nose, a mouth, arms, legs, feet, and toes. His or her heart has been strongly pumping his/her own blood for half a month now, and it might not even be the same blood type as the mother. Brain waves are detectable and the central nervous system is operating. RU 486 acts as a “progesterone blocker,” meaning it fills the receptors in the uterus made for holding progesterone, a natural hormone necessary for maintaining a safe pregnancy. With the progesterone blocked from its use, the uterine lining breaks down. This cuts the child off from their supply of food and oxygen, resulting in a slow death from starvation and suffocation. Two or three days later, the mother is given a vaginal suppository, which results in hemorrhaging and contractions that will usually expel the body of the child from the womb within a few days. One in 25 women will require surgery to stop the hemorrhaging or correct other problems after RU 486 usage.

Planned Parenthood tried to deny the fact that abortion has two victims, mother and child, by claiming that its Iowa testing of RU 486 produced “no complications.” This statement prompted Dr. Mark Louviere, who treated one of Planned Parenthood’s patients to come forward with the statement, “If near death due to the loss of half of one’s blood volume, surgery and a transfusion of four units of blood do not qualify as a complication, I don’t know what does.”

In partial-birth abortions, the abortionist forcibly and completely dilates the mother in the second or third trimester of pregnancy, and then turns the baby around in the womb to intentionally induce a breech delivery of the child. The child is delivered alive, feet first from the womb, with only the head left inside the mother’s body. This baby alive and almost completely born is then stabbed in the back of the head for the brain to be suctioned out for the completed delivery of the then dead baby. The difference between this act and first degree murder punishable by death is three inches, two seconds, and one breath. If a doctor who spent his day subjecting babies to the unspeakable torture of partial-birth abortions went home and did the same thing to his neighbor’s dog in Pennsylvania, he would be fined $5,000 and sent to prison for two years.

III. Pray

2 Chronicles 7: 14: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

IV. Speak out

Esther 4:14: For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

After a preacher finished speaking on the sanctity of life, an elderly gentleman approached him and began to speak. He said, “I grew up in Nazi Germany, during the Holocaust. As a child, I attended church with my family every Sunday. Right behind our little church building ran a set of railroad tracks. The trains that ran on those tracks carried no ordinary cargo, though. They carried people — Jewish people packed into railroad cars like cattle. They had been taken by force from the safety of their homes by the strong arms of a government which had declared them non-persons. And now they were being carted off to concentration camps, where millions of them would be murdered.

As the trains passed by our church, the people on them would cry out in anguish. We could not bear to hear it. So when we heard the horrible rumble of a train approaching in the distance, we would sing hymns to drown out the noise. As the train moved closer and closer, we would just sing a little louder. We were trying desperately not to hear their voices — trying desperately not to hear the words of the very God we pretended to praise, as He commanded us to defend them from the hands that shed innocent blood. We didn’t even pray for them.

Years passed. The war came to an end, and my family came to America, the land whose army God used to bring down Hitler. And now it’s happening all over again here.

Each day more than 4,000 helpless unborn babies are declared non-persons by our government, and dragged from the safe home of their mothers’ wombs by the strong arms of an abortionist, who violently kills them. And the reaction of the church on their behalf is the same as it was in my country: Silence!

As the man finished speaking he turned and said, “And in the midst of that silence, I can hear the trains again.”

Everyone has a choice to make about abortion. Will the world silence us and keep us inactive while all around us babies continue to die or will the Church finally take a stand?
